Birthday book
I’ve been commissioned to produce a book for an aunt’s 40th birthday. The family have provided scanned photos and ephemera, and sorted them into a loosely-chronological order.
The book needs to feel substantial, so I’ve chosen GFSmith Colourplan 135gsm in bright white – it’s quite textured and has a nice feel. Im going to print it on an inkjet so I’ve gone for short-grain A4. This means i can fold the sheets into eight page signatures easily. The total number of sections will depend on the total amount of images I decide to use. All a bit technical, but I’m hoping it’ll turn out ok.
The binding will be a fairly straightforward cloth-covered, flat back case binding. Obviously, I plan to have a foil block on there somewhere… And ribbon bookmarks. And maybe even marbled endpapers (depending on budget!).
Text pages will be set in Mrs Eaves Roman and Itals – I bought it a long time ago for a project and haven’t used it since.
So that’s my initial plan. This week I’m setting up the grid and initial layouts, expect images soon…
